Resource Audit Changes

Artist

- Knowing that my video is going to take at least a whole day considering that I would like to film in at least 3 places, and knowing that Chloe works on weekends, I have decided to use someone who can spend the whole weekend filming with me. My sister is a confident young girl and has offered to take Chloe's place as the singer/artist/main actor in the video.

- Unfortunately, unlike Chloe, my sister is not a dancer so in order to include a dance routine, I will be filming my self dancing alone that I will cut to throughout the video between shots of my sister walking down the road.

Props/Costume

- I am not going to have chloe wearing flat shoes rather than high heels because I don't think she will be able to walk down the alley ways in them due to the uneven floors and I think it might be dangerous

Location

I discovered that a couple of places I had origionally planned to film I will be unable to;
- behind south ruislip retail park, being a private road will mean I may not have permission to be down there
- I do not have access or a key to any alley ways that have gates behind residential streets
- I may decide not to film in the alley next to school as it is a busy area and my performer may be distracted or our filming interrupted on a regual basis (this will depend on the time of day I decide to film)

FILMING LOCATIONS
1. I have found an area which is surrounded up coloured garage doors in rows and is freely accessable but also quiet. I think the colours contrast to the feel of the grotty alley way, adding to my contrasting effect that is the theme of my video
2. A small alley way close to my house will also be perfect as it is very narrow which looks artistic and is noticably different to the other locations
3. Under the roundabout approacing Harrow-on-the-hill station there is an underpass which is hardly used by the public and is covered in colourful tiles. I think it looks artistic and urban which matches my song
4. I would definately like to use the closed down Focus near my house where I can capture the effects of vandalism, grafitti and the large empty car park which will allow us quiet and space for dancing

Equiptment

- I experimented with a tripod which the school supplied me with but found that there was no way to fit this onto wheels and even if I had, that the floor would be too bumpy to create a smooth effect anyway. I will use the tripod when filming myself so that I can set it up to look exactly how I want and will be steady as I dance in front of it.

Instead of this, I will be using the handheld handle that the school has which will mean I have alot more control over the camera and can carefully hold the camera myself to attempt this smooth, flowing, tracking effect.

Reflection on Branding

I decided that this font didn't suit my idea as it wasn't girly enough. Instead, I want the letters to be bubbly and rounded.

I played around with a different way of writing the name Katy B, and realised I could simplify it to just 3 letter which, when ready out, sound exactly the same as Katy B; KTB. With this, I can focus on making the letters look a cool shape with different layouts and how to fit a heart in, as I know I want to include one somewhere because it's a girly shape.

My favourite of these is the one in a square, I will have to try out how the heart will look on the programme I will be using to make the poster and digipak, called InDesign, as it may not work as well as I plan it to.

I have also decided against using one colour as the brand theme as I don't want my limit myself to only one colour. Instead, I want the brand theme to be that there are lots and lots of colours, this way, all of my products can be multicoloured and have the lively effect I had always wanted.

Branding

I'd like to design my own unique font that I will use on the digipak and the magazine advert and also a shape that I will consider my logo. I would like to try and include this in the video somehow aswell, either by super imposing it at the beginning or end, or by having it somewhere in the setting; written on the floor, on her clothes, etc.

For example, I experimented in powerpoint and came up with this an an initial idea but would like to improve on it.

Along with this, I wanted a small shape that would be used as a logo that clearly matches the font and style of the whole package.

I like Ed Sheeran's logo which is a simple and although is almost completely irrelevant, adds a characteristic to the artists image being cute and unique.
He also associates himself with the colour orange, a theme he always sticks to, and to take inspiration from that and adapt it to my own, I am going to use pink as my theme throughout as I think it goes with the girly style of the clothes and the artist and I will use a girly shape as the logo.

Pitch

I presented a pitch to my class. This involved explaining the concept of my video, the styling and the setting. I tried to make it clear exactly what I wanted the video to look like and what effect it should have on the audience. I had a visual aid on the screen behind me to demonstrate the composition that most of the video would consist of and that also exagerrated some of the features I explained that I wanted to include.

From sharing my ideas with the class, I received feedback that made me realise that I had to consider the environment around me; the fact that I will be filming my video outside in the winter so will have to have a plan for if the weather is going to affect whether or not I can film that day, for example rain or wind, and that she may also have to have alot more clothing on that I had origionally planned in case she gets too cold.

To help with this problem, I will be taking extra clothes with me on the day of filming, not only that she can wear during filming without taking away from the styling and outfits, but also clothes that between shots she can put on to warm her up before taking them off for filming again like a large coat and tacksuit bottoms that will fit over her trousers.

House Style

I plan to ensure that the digipak and magazine advert both mirror the themes, colours and styles that I used in the video. To do this, I will be taking the photos for the digipak and advert in the setting and clothes that I use in the video, possibly even taking still from the actual video.

Like the clothes in the video, I would like the fonts, shapes and images to be lively and fun. The colours will match some of those used in the video and also be bright and colourful like the main theme of the video.

I like the fact that some bands have their own brands. For example, Alt J whose name was chosen when they realised pressing Alt and J on a mac keyboard that a triangle shape came up and therefore then let this triangle shape become their logo. They are widely recognised for being associated with this this shape (click here to see my pinterest board on Alt-J for various album covers, posters and photos of this trademark).

I also like it when artist use the same font throughout all merchandising and advertising. Eminem does this by using a backwards E in the second "e" of his name everytime he writes his name, also always writing it in capital letters to make the mirrored Es more effective, similarly to Abba who always write their Bs mirrored He sometimes also includes this backwards letter in other words in his graphic images, click here to see some examples of this.

N-Dubs use the same font through their imaging also, a font that looks almost like graffitti which helps with the branding of the artist, relating to their urban style of music.
