(History) In 1998, after the "Bitter Sweet Symphony" video was released, it was nominated for three MTV Awards at the MTV Video Music Awards. It was inspired by an exising video which was very similar by Massive attack, (Concept) both of these videos featuring the singer walking down the street, oblivious to their surroundings. In Bitter Sweet Sympony, he is seen bumping into various passers-by and ignoring all around him, as if nothing is going to change his jouney or affect him as he must continue or just doesn't care. (Direction) The camera varies from mid-shots to wide angle shots but staying focused with the lead singer in center screen throughout the video, reflecting his feelings about those around him as he is the focus of the cameras attention (Editing) without straying, cutting or including any other images. (Styling) The clothes he wear are representational of his music, the of the song being categorised as rock but not heavy so does not follow a specific style, just everyday clothing; not following a trend- not caring what he looks like. (Representation) When bumping one of the women, we see the his expression doesn't change. He doesn't look back to help or check that she's ok. People gather, mostly being men, to help her up, most of which trying to start a fight with the singer, as if women need men to stand up for them and that men are agressive, both from him pushing her in the first place and then from seeing the other men shouting after him.
