(Artists) Dire Straits won numerous music awards during their career, including four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards —winning Best British Group twice, and two MTV Video Music Awards. (Context) Their video for "Money for Nothing" was produced in 1985 when, although not up to todays animation standards, it was revolutionary within music videos at the time and within animation as having the first animated human figures. It was the first music video ever played on MTV in Britain, and the second ever animated music video to be made, winning "Video of the Year" 1986. (Concept) The video features two cartoon characters, both dressed in overalls, who move around in the video alongside the song, sometimes their mouths moving in time, sometimes doing as the song is describing and occasionally watching the real band performing on TV. (Art direction) The whole video consists of bright colours, the both the animation and also the clothes of the real band when being show perfoming on stage. (Special effects) This is also exaggerated though special effects where items of their clothing and props on the stage are shown to be changing colour or glowing.
