Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" video

 

(History) The video to "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" was realised in the middle of 2011 alongside the release of Coldplay's newest album "Mylo Xyloto" which worked well as the CD cover art was replicated in the video. (Concept) The video is made up of a series of photos that are quickly shown after one another to simulate his movement like a video but without the fluency. (Context) This was something unseen before and suited Coldplay's artistic reputation but opposed their style as was covered in graffitti, Coldplay being a rock band rather than hip hop which grafitti, if any music style, would most likely be associated with. (Location) The area also reflects this as is in a run down, outdoor building on the outskirts of a built up city where people may expect gangs to hang out, again opposing the band's style but still supporting their artistic look.
(Theme) With each separate image more colour and shapes appear on the walls and floor around the band as if their music is making it happen as it occurs in time with eachother. It suggests this song is bringing life to the building and making it a nicer place than what once just looked like a run down bulding, as if their music can bring happiness which is replicated in the bright colours and fun shapes around them.
(Direction) The camera follows the band members closely, mostly the lead singer as he moves around the area and skips/dances and also sometimes cutting to the dummer and guitarist, keeping them mostly in center screen throughout. This is to show that they are the center of what is happening in this situation and consiquently the cause for it; the colours appearing on the walls are being caused by them.
(Styling) The band are wearing some items/accessories which match the colours appearing around them which ensures the whole scene comes together and you can see that everything is linked and coming together.
(Special effects) Where some wider shots are used, I assume special effects must have been used to colour the buildings behind as painting them would be very difficult and as they are repainted over and over, this would mean cleaning the building over and over aswell.
